Student Experience

Student Experience

Our students take part in a range of learning and community actions and activities that allow you to explore the world, step into career fields, and influence local and global change. Explore CSU cultural resource centers, experiential classes, study abroad programs, internships, and more through Race, Gender and Ethnic Studies.

Internships

RGES students put learning into action through internships with nonprofit, educational, government, and service organizations that make a positive impact on the community. Internships provide valuable career skills while you develop and deliver cultural competence, civic awareness, and advocacy for organizations.

Study Abroad

RGES students can enroll in the Ghana Community Engagement Project (ETST/WGS 322A), led by department faculty, and travel to Africa during winter break to work with local youth and nonprofits and learn about Ghanaian culture, music, and storytelling. Additional Education Abroad courses offered through other departments in the College of Liberal Arts take students around the world for valuable cultural learning experiences and exchanges.

Community Engagement

RGES students get involved with outreach programs that support Indigenous communities, immigrant groups, and communities of color. Through faculty-led projects and initiatives, you’ll help lead arts, education, and service projects — and gain real-world experience while making a difference.

Cultural Resource Centers

Colorado State University cultural resource centers offer a wide selection of programs and services designed to provide all students unique opportunities to participate in and contribute to the vibrant campus environment.

Scholarships and Awards

RGES offers scholarships to support student success and help offset costs of attending college and fulfilling research and travel opportunities. Our undergraduate majors and minors can apply for awards that recognize academic achievement, community engagement, and commitment to the department's areas of study. These opportunities help support your education while encouraging you to make the most of your experience at CSU.

VIDA Learning Community

VIDA is a first‑year Residential Learning Community that helps students build community, explore interests, and connect those interests to academics and careers. Open to Liberal Arts majors and Exploratory Studies students in select tracks, VIDA offers peer support, faculty engagement, and interactive events in Parmelee Hall’s suite-style environment.
