Biography
Hello! My name is Breanna Marie Bailey (She/Her/Ella) I am a first year Ethnic Studies MA student in the Department of Race, Gender and Ethnic Studies at Colorado State University. I earned my BA in Political Science with a double minor in Mexican-American and Leadership Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. My research interests center on how individuals foster their political efficacy to make institutional, structural, and political change. In particular, I am interested in how Chicana/os foster political efficacy through various engagements with sites of efficacy building including Youth Based Participatory Action Research and transnational theatre. I look forward to expanding my research interests by engaging with cross-campus partnerships. I became interested in Ethnic Studies through my Undergraduate research project through the McNair Scholars Program. I cherished my time doing archive exploration for my project at The University of Texas at Austin’s Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection on a theatre writer and activist from my hometown of El Paso, TX. These experiences shaped my current commitment to fostering political efficacy through theatre. During my graduate studies, I hope to develop strong analytical and theoretical skills, present my work at conferences, and to strengthen my connection to the CSU students, faculty, and staff. After completing my degree, I plan to obtain my PhD in Performance Studies or Political Science and later teach. Outside of my academic work, I enjoy painting, watching plays and musicals, expanding voter participation in my Greeley community, and playing with my dog Goten!
